Council Meeting Update:
April 21st, 2009 Council meeting.

Special recognition for Parks and Recreation District 6 award winners:
Mr. Mike Graham, Layperson. For volunteering many hours in Marina Youth Baseball, Marina Youth Soccer and creating, operating, managing a youth indoor soccer league.
American Legion Post 694, Organization. For donating countless hours supporting our community and for the thousands of eggs donated every year to our Easter egg hunt.
Wasson’s, Corporation. For years of sponsoring youth teams and the recreation programs in Marina. Wasson’s also donates manpower to clean facilities after City events.
Ms. Darlena Ridler, Commissioner. For donating countless hours to our City’s recreation programs. Darlena also organized and ran the 3 day Martin Luther King special events which included a march, a day of doing good, and a day of remembrance.
The City of Marina received 4 of the 10 awards given by District 6, which includes Santa Cruz County, Monterey County and San Benito County.
Ms. Jackie Gonzales received her 5-year service pin.

10B) Preston Park Housing Area Budget. Council deferred to May 5th Council Meeting.
10C) Abram’s Park Housing Area Budget. Council deferred to May 5th Council Meeting.
10D) 3 amendments to the Abram’s B and Preston Park Contracts. Council deferred to May 5th Council Meeting.
Council after taking no actions adjourned at 10:00pm.
Council will get a do-over on May 5th.
10E, 10F, 10G, along with 10B, 10C and 10D will appear on the May 5th Council agenda.

Our Council meeting got to the meat of the agenda at 7:50pm due to the many speakers and announcements.
9A) Council approved a use permit for South Bay Regional Public Safety Training Consortium. The use the un-used portion of the airport for training public safety officers on vehicle maneuvers. The permit issued will provide additional revenue to the City of Marina.
10A) AMBAG gave the City Council a presentation on Regional Blueprinting. A program that will assist our City in preparing our Housing Element Program and also assist in the compliance of SB 375 and AB 32 by calculating CO2 levels and transportation needs.
10B) Council adopted a resolution approving a exclusive negotiating agreement with the Institute of Canine Studies. For consideration of purchasing property on the Former Fort Ord.
10C) Urban Environmental Accords and the Mayors Climate Protection Agreement. Council sent this item back to staff for additional staff work pertaining to potential costs to the City.
10D) Council approved sending out a survey to businesses within the City, to find how additional signage types may be advantageous during this economic re-cession.
10E) Council submitted to the California State Department of Finance 3 projects; Marina Drive Drainage Improvement Project; Reservation Road Bike Improvement Project; and the 2009 Street Resurfacing Project.
10F) Council approved staffs update on City efforts to obtain Stimulus Funding, and to direct staffs effort towards that goal and to delay other work that may interfere with this scope of work.
